Scores are out of five.

Bottom line: If you live in the company’s service area, we recommend Bellhop Movers for long-distance moves. The company offers easy booking, dedicated trucks (your stuff doesn’t get shipped with someone else’s), and unique discounts. And the majority of Bellhop customers have positive things to say. If you’re just doing a local move, Bellhop will usually refer you to one of its partners. It could still be a good fit, but you’ll have less control over selecting the mover and you might want to look into customer reviews on your own.

Bellhop Movers: In-Depth Breakdown

📊 Our rating: 4/5

  • Labor-only option or labor and truck option
  • Price calendar when booking
  • QR code to start and end move
  • Fewer moving services than other companies

Bellhop provides great service for better prices than the average mover.

We got quotes from Bellhop Movers for both a local and long-distance move for a three-bedroom household:

Move typeQuote price
Local$1,283 ($179/hr. for 3 movers and 1 truck)
Long-distance$2,500 (3 movers and 1 truck) to $4,500 (3 movers and 2 trucks)
Labor only$90/hr (two movers) or $120/hr. (three movers)

Bellhop Movers has competitive pricing. The quote for a local move is on the lower end of the national average for a local move ($1,000–2,500, according to HomeAdvisor’s moving cost data).

For a long-distance move (from North Carolina to Georgia), Bellhop quoted us between $2,500 for one truck and $4,500 for two.

Unlike many other large moving companies, Bellhop Movers offers lots of coupons and discounts. And when you book on the website or the app, Bellhop shows you a calendar that lets you compare pricing by date.

Bellhop movers scan a QR code at the beginning and end of your move, so you know exactly how long you’re getting billed for. That means you don’t have to worry about slow movers tacking on time just to get paid more.

You can also save money with Bellhop’s flexible service options. If you pick labor-only services and rent your own truck, you’ll pay less than for both labor and a truck.

But keep in mind that Bellhop isn’t a full-service mover. A lot of full-service moving companies will help you assemble and disassemble your furniture and hook up televisions or appliances. If you want that kind of service, take a look at our list of the best long-distance moving companies.

Bellhop does allow you to cancel within 48 hours of booking for no charges. You’ll have to forfeit your 10% deposit if you want to cancel after that.

Customer experience

📊Our rating: 4/5

  • Excellent customer reviews
  • Few damage complaints
  • Potential staffing problems in Atlanta area

Bellhop gets above-average customer ratings and reviews, so it seems like a good bet that it will give you a decent customer experience.

Bellhop Movers earns a 4.8 out of 5 on Google and a 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Positive reviews rave about the easy booking process and Bellhop’s friendly and experienced movers.

A few negative Bellhop reviews focused on issues like item damage and minor home damage. But again, many more reviews say Bellhop did a decent job without any issues.

There were an unusual number of complaints about Bellhop canceling moves or failing to show up for moves in the Bellhop Atlanta service area. The other locations didn’t have reviews like that, so this is probably an issue with local staff and not reflective of the company as a whole.

📊Our rating: 4/5

  • Current licensing and insurance
  • Very few formal complaints

Bellhop Movers appears to be a legitimate company that complies with industry standards. You can feel confident using Bellhop moving.

The company has a current registration with the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT). It’s also properly insured, and its drivers haven’t been in any documented crashes in the past two years.

And Bellhop has just two formal consumer complaints during the past two years. That’s pretty impressive and much fewer than most moving major companies.

📊Our rating: 4/5

  • Small fleet size
  • Online booking for local moves
  • Instant quotes for local moves
  • Ballpark quotes for long-distance moves

Bellhop has a smaller fleet than most other national moving companies. But even though its resources are limited, we were impressed with its availability.

Bellhop Movers has just a handful of vehicles and only 21 drivers in its long-distance fleet. That means the company’s schedule can fill up quickly.

But when we tried to book a local move, Bellhop had plenty of availability within the next week — even the next day. A Bellhop Movers rep said to book at least a couple weeks in advance for long-distance moves and around four weeks during the busy summer months.

Bellhop also makes quotes and booking way easier than most moving companies. For local moves, you can use the Bellhop website to get an instant quote (including a cost breakdown, so you don’t have to worry about hidden fees). If you like your quote, you can book your move online.

For long-distance moves, you have to call Bellhop. But Bellhop offers immediate ballpark quotes. In other words, you can get a free estimate today and compare Bellhop to other moving companies.

Our question: Is this moving company worth it?

We start assessing value by requesting a quote from the mover. A quote gives us a breakdown of the company’s fees (hourly rates, truck fees, etc.) and tells us how costs compare to the local and national average.

If a company’s costs are drastically higher than these averages, we can recommend more affordable movers that we’ve also thoroughly vetted. A detailed quote also gives us insight into any additional fees. For example, is packing included, or do you have to pay extra?

Customer experience

Our question: What’s the common user experience for this service?

We look up the mover’s average rating on popular review sites like Yelp, Trustpilot, and Google. Then we read as many reviews as possible to verify the rating and see if any positive or negative themes stand out.

If we notice potential red flags, like lots of damage complaints, we reach out to the customers to see if there’s a cause for concern.

There are also companies who pay people to leave positive reviews. So, if the reviews are glowing, we reach out to reviewers to see if they’re real customers.

Our question: Is this company a legitimate business?

Unfortunately, moving scams are fairly common. Lots of people have experienced losing their deposit, movers never showing up, and companies outright stealing their personal items.

To check a company’s credibility, we look for things like Department of Transportation registration, active insurance, and licensing with the appropriate state authorities.

Then we look at sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to check the mover’s accreditation, rating, and any unresolved formal complaints against them.

If all the credibility signals check out, then we give the business a high credibility rating. If something seems off, we reach out to the company and former customers for comment.

Our question: How bookable is this moving service?

To check if the company can typically accommodate a customer’s desired moving date, we ask the company how soon we’d be able to move. Then we ask if the date is flexible.

We also comb Department of Transportation records to see how many trucks and drivers the mover has. A small fleet is a sign that the mover has limited capacity. The company might not be able to handle lots of moves during a busy season.
